Winskill Park Fieldhouse
Client: City of Delta
Location: Delta, BC
Program: Community. Recreation
Photography: Michael Elkan Architectural Photography
The chosen form reflects and adapts Delta’s agricultural building typology, aligning with the open-field park context. The program is divided into two buildings: one housing a multi-purpose space to serve as a headquarters for local clubs and community activities, and the other providing washrooms, change rooms, and storage for park users.
The planning for the Fieldhouse also accounted for a reflective open space in front, supporting outdoor activities and connecting the building to its surroundings. The facility’s location complements nearby amenities, including a hospice, seniors' residence, lawn bowling green, active sports fields to the east, and a community and aquatic centre to the south. This strategic integration caters to a diverse demographic, offering spaces for a wide range of users.
The Winskill Fieldhouse is the newest addition to Winskill Park in Tsawwassen, BC, and anchors the park’s north end alongside a new lawn bowling green. The facility embodies both the community’s growth and its commitment to preserving its roots. With a design that is both simple and sophisticated, the Fieldhouse features a light, open elevation and uses wood in its purest form, creating a gesture that connects seamlessly to the surrounding park and natural setting.
O4A was awarded the commission for the Winskill Park Fieldhouse in September 2019, with work commencing shortly thereafter. The O4A team collaborated closely with Delta City officials and local user groups to develop programmatic options. Three comprehensive site location and orientation options were presented before settling on the final design.
