A detailed architectural model of a modern house built on a water body, featuring multiple levels, landscaping, and pathways, with surrounding greenery and trees.

This project reimagines an existing marine research laboratory, transforming it into a world-class center for scientific research, collaboration, and public engagement. Situated on a prime waterfront site, the design integrates essential programmatic elements, including public interpretive spaces and an inviting waterfront experience, with the goal of fostering innovation and inclusivity.

The project evolved through a series of design and planning workshops with key user groups, including local MP Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, First Nations stakeholders, and community and science partners. These workshops informed the development of a design that reflects the primary objectives of transparency, inclusivity, and innovation.

Modern building with large glass windows and wooden accents, illuminated at night, reflected in a body of water in the foreground, surrounded by trees and a cloudy sky.

The facility will serve as a bridge between the scientific community and the public, providing a dynamic space for both research and community engagement. By focusing on these guiding principles, the design creates a flexible, sustainable, and accessible environment that promotes collaboration and scientific exploration while fostering public understanding of marine science.
