This residential apartment building serves as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown Kimberley, BC, a former mining town that has evolved into a popular eco-tourism destination. The design recognizes the town’s rich history and its transformation, strategically situated near the Platzl to help anchor a vibrant and active downtown core.

The building is organized around a central courtyard, which not only provides natural light but also serves as a space for community interaction and fresh air. The four-story structure is clad in brick, a material that embodies texture, color, and permanence, signifying public spaces and accentuating the divisions between the suites within the simple building frame. The red brick ties the building into the surrounding context, complementing the existing paving and neighborhood aesthetic.

By proposing a higher density than current zoning allows, the project maximizes housing potential while respecting the pedestrian scale and experience at street level, ensuring a sensitive integration with the urban fabric.
