The Kanaka Creek Watershed, a forested site rich in native plants and wildlife, is home to the Kanaka Creek Stewardship Centre. Building upon the legacy of the Bell Irving hatchery, this center celebrates the site’s natural ecosystems in innovative ways. The design departs from convention by spreading the program areas across the site in a campus-like arrangement, where circulation and connection between spaces occur outdoors. This approach reduces the building's footprint, minimizing its impact on the sensitive watershed environment. Partially funded by the local community, the Kanaka Creek Centre serves as a model for watershed stewardship, education, and grassroots engagement, fostering a deeper connection between people and the land they protect.
