This community recreation center, located in the heart of Richmond’s Minoru Park, serves a culturally diverse and active user group. The building replaces an existing lawn bowling clubhouse while offering multi-purpose event and recreational spaces for the City of Richmond.

The design emphasizes flexibility and connectivity across the site. The long, rectangular form features operable accordion glass walls, allowing for an open flow between the interior and the bowling greens on either side or the ability to close off sections to create versatile rooms for various activities.

Targeting LEED Gold certification, the building takes advantage of its proximity to Minoru Lake for hydrothermal energy and stormwater collection. Additionally, the structure incorporates innovative wood CLT panels, reducing construction time, material waste, and sequestering carbon. This approach underscores the building’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency while enhancing the community experience.
